The currently wealthiest and most powerful of these surviving houses is House Alder. Through strategic industrial espionage and black market deals during the dissolution of nobility over the past century, House Alder has persisted and managed to become one of the financially strongest institutions in Eos. But although they appear to be well-mannered philanthropists to the public, their incentives are only ever self-serving to maintain and grow their financial stability and political power. In that vein, House Alder is as much a criminal instituation as it is a noble family, and is not above extortion, blackmail, sabotage and in some instances even murder. As nobles, even today, believe in the superiority of noble blood, and feel that there is a clear distinction between themselves and those not born into noble families, their exploitation of non-nobles is only ever justified to them[break][break][break]
